How Snakes Move

Walking the tracks
spining through
deciduous nests,
tangled trash,
landscapes fit
for imagining the end,
which we do
as we walk.

How about
the end of yards
bedrooms
wedding rings
dogs tethered
sharking cars?

A snake sprints
from between
your footsteps,
a movement nobody
can explain.

You said scientists don’t
know how they do it.
You said there are
mathematical anomalies.
But later I read
they solved the problem.

So we know how snakes move
We know how it happens
We know where it’s headed
We know the end
We are moving towards it

Moving through yards
Moving through bedrooms
Moving with wedding rings
Moving with dogs un-tethered
Moving between sharking cars
Walking the tracks
